  • The position is full time, including study time to complete Certificate 3 in Nursery Production.
  • Training will take place onsite.

Job Description

We are a not-for-profit environmental organisation that operates a well-established native plant nursery, in Redhead at our site within the Belmont Wetlands State Park.

Our nursery staff provide plants to the community with local provenance grown from seed collected throughout our region, as well as advice on appropriate species selection, planting strategies, and ongoing care.

Your key responsibilities as a Nursery Operations apprentice

  • Propagate and maintain healthy nursery plants
  • Identify native plants, their characteristics, and growing requirements
  • Receive and dispatch nursery products
  • Maintain nursery systems, equipment, procedures and materials including irrigation systems
  • Use IT systems for record keeping
  • Share information relating to current industry methods
  • Provide information on plants and their culture to nursery customers and volunteers
  • Comply with WHS policies and procedures

Applicants must:

  • Be passionate about working in the Horticulture Industry,
  • Be dedicated to completing Certificate III in Production Nursery,
  • current drivers licence and own transport,
  • Passion for Australian native plants,
  • Be dedicated & committed to the qualification and term of the apprenticeship
  • Able to use online learning technologies or willingness to learn
  • Able to work independently,
  • Work well in a team environment,
  • Love working outdoors in all weather conditions,
  • Have a high attention to detail,
  • Be a reliable and hard worker with a positive attitude,
  • Have completed CareerGate 3 – General Aptitude Assessment.
