Trees in Newcastle’s Bush Regeneration team is growing!

Position Vacant – Bush Regeneration Team Member (Casual Position)

This position works as part of a team performing tasks relating to the restoration of natural areas. The focus is bush regeneration; however other activities will include revegetation, soil stabilisation, track work, plant propagation and nursery work. At times you may be required to give guidance to volunteers working with TIN.

The position reports directly to the Bush Regeneration Team Leader.

Specific Tasks / Duties performed by this position:

  • Implement field work activities relating to bush regeneration and restoration.
  • Undertake weed control work including the application of herbicide
  • Implement site preparation and soil stabilisation techniques for revegetation work
  • Carry out maintenance procedures for equipment and machinery used for on-site activities
  • Assist the Bush Regeneration Team Leader in the preparation of daily site reports, risk assessments, herbicide application forms and site monitoring
  • Ensure a safe working environment and maintain a high standard of work and report any issues of concern to the Team Leader
  • Ensure environmental standards are maintained or enhanced and the quality of work meets the standard required by the Project Owner

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum of one year’s practical experience in on-site bushland regeneration
  • Conservation & Land Management Certificate 3 or higher
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team or independently and with the ability to use initiative, to be flexible and reliable
  • Practical knowledge of native and exotic plant species and vegetation communities of the Hunter Region
  • Chemcert AQF3 (or equivalent)
  • White Card

Position Vacant – Bush Regeneration Team Leader (Casual Position)

An integral part of the Trees in Newcastle Bush Regeneration Team this position will be responsible for leadership, project direction and the team’s daily reporting requirements. This position will be an active part of the team, performing professional tasks relating to the restoration of natural areas. Although the main focus is bush regeneration, other activities will include revegetation, soil stabilisation, track work and at times may also include supervision and guidance of volunteers working on project sites.

This position reports directly to the General Manager of Trees in Newcastle.

Specific Tasks / Duties performed by this position:

  • Ensure that the Team is transported safely to and from the worksite.
  • Provide and ensure appropriate guidance and supervision of the Team and volunteers on the worksite.
  • Ensure that well-maintained tools, equipment and machinery are available for safe use on the project site.
  • The Team Leader is responsible for the delivery of daily toolbox talks and preparation of daily site reports, risk assessments, herbicide application forms and site monitoring requirements.
  • Implement best practice field work activities relating to bush regeneration and natural area restoration and management.
  • Implement best practice weed control techniques, including the strategic application of appropriate herbicides.
  • Ensure WH&S standards are maintained or enhanced and that the quality of work is to the highest possible standard, delivers the outcomes specified in the Project Owner’s brief.

Essential Criteria:

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to communicate with our customers, community volunteers and the general public
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently and have the ability to use initiative, to be flexible and reliable
  • Conservation & Land Management Certificate 3 or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years practical experience in on-site bushland regeneration
  • Practical knowledge of native and exotic plant species and vegetation communities of the Hunter Region
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Chemcert AQF3 3 (or equivalent qualification)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • White Card
